A choristership in New College and a musical education for life

Each September, four or five seven-year-old boys begin as choristers in New College Choir and, after six years, emerge as expert musicians.

They perform in concerts worldwide, record CDs, and participate in choral services at Oxford’s grandest medieval chapel.

Parents often wonder how an ‘ordinary’ boy is transformed into a professional-standard musician while remaining a typical schoolboy. The answer lies in the specialised musical training and creative learning led by the choir’s director, Robert Quinney, and the inspiring power of great music.

Auditions for the next generation of choristers will take place in early January 2025 for boys in Year 2.
