Harris Dulwich Boys rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted

Harris Boy’s Academy East Dulwich has received an ‘Outstanding’ rating from Ofsted, following its inspection last November.

Ofsted assessed the quality of education, student behaviour, personal development, the Sixth Form and the leadership and management, and found them all outstanding.

“Pupils care about their studies and are eager to take advantage of the high-quality teaching available to them,” said Ofsted in their report, which also praised students for their exemplary behaviour. “Pupils are happy and treat each other kindly”, they reported.

“This judgement would not have been possible without our excellent team of staff who work tirelessly to provide our students with the very best learning opportunities,” said Principal Chris Brett.

“We were very proud of the way our students conducted themselves during the visit. As always, they treated each other with respect and kindness and demonstrated their positive attitudes to learning.”

Last year, fewer than a fifth of schools which had previously been judged Outstanding maintained this grade, making this achievement even more impressive. The academy’s previous ‘Outstanding’ rating was from 2011.

Ofsted also praised how the school supports student wellbeing. “The school’s work to develop pupils’ character is exceptional,” the report said. “Pupils receive extensive preparation for their future, through meaningful opportunities to work with employers and to visit schools, colleges and universities.”

In the most recent exam results, Harris Boys’ Academy East Dulwich had a Progress 8 score of +0.72, meaning that the academy is in the top 5% of schools nationally for student progress.
