They follow the principles and ethos as set out by the Forest School Association, which are really quite specific.
The overriding aim is to encourage and enable the children who attend Forest School to have great fun and learn new skills through child-led play. People often ask about child-led play; this is when children decide what they would like to explore and investigate, and have the freedom to do so. It could be making rivers with water, making pies with mud, setting up a snail race, building a den or opening a shop using leaves for money!
Golden time during a session is when all of the children are completely engaged in something that interests them. Often, this also requires cooperation of groups of children within the cohort.
Forries runs Forest Sprite sessions for pre-school children, after-school sessions for children at school as well as longer holiday sessions every school holiday. They also run brilliant birthday parties; they offer obstacle course parties, gentle craft parties and their fire parties where bread-making and toasting marshmallows are the most popular options.
