St Dunstan’s College students celebrate another year of exceptional GCSE results

St Dunstan’s College, Catford, south London, is delighted to reveal that this year’s GCSE students have achieved an exceptional set of results, underlining the College’s reputation for academic excellence and ambition. An outstanding 54% of all grades were awarded at 9–8 (A*) – the highest on record for the College and a clear marker of St Dunstan’s recent academic momentum on the national stage.

In total, 90% of grades were awarded at 9–6 (A*–B) and 76% at 9–7 (A*–A). These remarkable outcomes build on last week’s record-breaking A Level success and further strengthen St Dunstan’s position among the top performing independent schools in the country.

Speaking about the results, Jade McLellan, Head of Senior School, said: ‘We are immensely proud of our Year 11 students for achieving an exceptional set of GCSE results, with 54% of all grades awarded at 9–8 (A) – the strongest in the College’s history. Such an achievement reflects the academic excellence and ambition that defines St Dunstan’s, and it follows just a week after our record-breaking A Level outcomes. Together, these results cement our position as one of the top independent schools in the country.

‘National recognition through prestigious awards has highlighted the strength of our approach, and today’s grades are another powerful example of our commitment to delivering ‘Excellence. Differently.’’

Following the exceptional grades, Year 11 students will now join St Dunstan’s Sixth Form alongside pupils joining from local state schools across south-east London.

Jade added: ‘Our Year 11s now move forward into the Sixth Form with confidence and ambition, ready to embrace the next stage of their educational journey, alongside students from local state schools who we are equally delighted to be welcoming into our community.’

Emma Latham, Deputy Head Academic, also said: ‘These record-breaking results are a true reflection of both the academic excellence we aspire to at St Dunstan’s and the determination shown by our young people. They have approached their studies with real focus and commitment, embracing the challenges of GCSEs with maturity beyond their years. It has been inspiring to see them develop as learners and individuals, and we are thrilled that their hard work has been recognised with such outstanding outcomes. We now look forward to seeing them excel in their A Level studies as they continue with the next chapter of their learning.’

Year 11 student, Isabel, who achieved an outstanding 11 x 9s (A*), said: ‘I’m so happy with my results – all the hard work has really paid off. I’m looking forward to starting Sixth Form here and continuing with the subjects I love.’

William, who achieved 7 x 9s and 4 x 8s, added: ‘I’m really pleased with my results and looking forward to my Sixth Form studies.’

The exceptional GCSE results come just a week after the A Level outcomes, which were the best-ever in the school’s history for a third consecutive year.

This year, 89% of all A Level grades achieved were A*–B with an outstanding 62% at A*–A. Following these historic results, 96% of students will progress to their preferred universities, with more than two-thirds securing places at institutions ranked in the Complete University Guide’s Top 25.

This year’s destinations reflect our commitment to supporting students’ individual journeys at St Dunstan’s, with eight students reading engineering, four entering drama schools, two reading Medicine and two taking up places to study Law. Three students have also received offers from prestigious music conservatoires.

St Dunstan’s College will host its annual open day on Saturday 20 September. Families can book at www.stdunstans.org.uk
