Toyota (GB) supports Skills Builder schools programme

Toyota (GB) is supporting the Skills Builder Accelerator programme in five schools in Surrey and Croydon, local to its Epsom headquarters.

The company has become a Collective Impact partner, providing £15,000 of funding in the 2023-24 academic year.

The programme is a global group of businesses, education institutions, and impact organisations working together to establish and enhance the skills children and young people need for future success in the workplace. It runs from pre-school through primary and secondary school into apprenticeships and early careers, teaching eight essential skills such as listening to others, speaking clearly and working in a team.

Toyota’s support will also include staff volunteering and an employability skills day at the company’s headquarters.

Scott Thompson, Toyota (GB) President and Managing Director, said: “Toyota is committed to helping to improve the lives of local communities in which it operates, and by supporting the Skills Builder programme through local schools, we’ll be helping to overcome the skills gap, so that disadvantaged youngsters can gain the essential skills they need to succeed in their future careers. We look forward to seeing the results from the schools going through Skills Builder this year and also to extending this to more Surrey schools in future years.”

The five schools that Toyota is supporting during the current academic year, are:

– Undershaw Special Educational Needs School, Hindhead
– Park Hill Junior School, Croydon
– Bright Minds Creative Academy, Croydon
– Aspire Learning, Croydon
– Olympus Secondary School, Croydon.

Ruby Mir, Head of Development, Skills Builder Partnership, said: “We’re proud to have Toyota joining us as a Collective Impact partner. Collective impact is the power of working together to transform essential skills, so we are grateful to our supporting organisations for making this work possible, including funding Accelerator and Global Accelerator programmes for our state school and college partners to make the programme accessible to everyone.”
