Tips for reducing plastic use this summer

In 2024, more people are becoming more aware of their environmental impact, whether they’re having fewer showers or walking to work, but we can also help the environment by reducing our plastic use.
Plastic Free July is underway, designated as the month to reduce our plastic use, with the hopes that it will help us to continue better habits year-round.
With that in mind, Oakwood Theme Park offer some helpful tips on how you can reduce your own plastic use, especially when visiting a theme park.
Bring a reusable bag
Making use of a reusable bag for things such as drinks, souvenirs and snacks reduces your reliance on plastic. You can either make use of a backpack, a tote bag or a reusable carrier bag so that you can keep your hands free during your trip.
Bring your reusable straw
The fight against single use plastics has become that little bit easier thanks to reusable straws, which are usually made from stainless steel or silicone and can be washed and used multiple times. They have become so popular that they come in various designs, and you can even put them on your keyring so you don’t have to put up with those soggy paper straws in your drink.
Find and use the recycling hubs
Disposing of your rubbish responsibly is one of the best ways to contribute to the planet’s health. By recycling properly, you can reduce the amount of raw materials that need to be found and subsequently used up, including plastic. Find your nearest recycling bins and make use of them - they are usually colour-coded and have easy-to-spot signage, making it even easier to dispose of your waste. This has become so important of late, that it’s actually a new law set by the Welsh Government whereby all waste where possible must be recycled, which a great effort towards helping climate change.
