The Square Camberley reflects on successful end to 2024

The Square Camberley are taking the time to look back on a successful Christmas period, with events and charity initiatives to support the local community.

The centre’s Santa’s Grotto was incredibly popular with local families, providing the opportunity for the community to come and meet Santa in the comfort of The Square and tell him their wishes for the festive season. The Grotto raised a fantastic £1,688.25 through its ticket sales as part of the centre’s commitment to supporting local charities, with 50% of the funds donated by The Rotary Club of Camberley to Home Start, Children with Special Needs, and Scamps. A total of 2,144 visitors enjoyed the magic in Cambridge Square. Most importantly, tickets were set at an accessible level for all families.

Alongside the Grotto was The Square’s free letter writing to Santa, which saw 1,163 letters written to the man himself and sent in the special post box. Letters with a return address also received a response from Santa, bringing joy to children and parents alike.

A cheque was presented to Charles Barbor and Anne Summer of The Rotary Club of Camberley by Gavin Vidler, Centre Manager of The Square on Monday 27th January, who were hugely appreciative of the generosity of The Square’s shoppers.

Adding to the spirit of giving, The Rotary Club also assembled 78 Christmas food parcels in The Square which were distributed across Camberley, providing festive cheer to 325 individuals and families who needed support most, to ensure they could enjoy a wonderful Christmas. Nominations for those to receive the bundles were sent in from local churches and well-being agencies in order to support the most vulnerable.

Gavin Vidler, Centre Manager for The Square Camberley, commented “We are overwhelmed by the incredible support from our community and proud to have helped spread so much joy across the festive season. A huge thank you to everyone who participated, whether by visiting Santa’s Grotto, writing a letter or supporting the Rotary’s fantastic initiatives. It’s wonderful to see the community come together to make Christmas truly special for so many.”
