There’s lots to see and do at the Bluebell Railway in Sussex

The railway has a collection of over 30 steam locomotives and 100 carriages and wagons. The oldest running locomotive is called Fenchurch. She is 152 years old and yellow. Their youngest engine is called Beachy Head and although she is a replica of an engine built in 1911, she is actually brand new! Built at the Bluebell Railway over a 20-year period by a dedicated team, she has just had a successful steam test. This means she is now allowed to steam up and down the tracks and pull a train.

From 23rd August to 1st September, there will be a special Beachy Head Gala to celebrate the new standard gauge engine. All the running engines will come out to play and there will be lots of chuffing and whistling.

The Bluebell Railway has a lot of volunteers who help make the railway the brilliant place it is. Volunteers work the signals, welcome visitors and send the trains from the station. They share their amazing railway knowledge, fix engines and drive the trains. Your child could volunteer one day when they grow up!
