Mass Confectionery Donation to Teesside Hospitals
Stockton’s leisure centres have donated over £1000 worth of confectionery from their cafés and vending machines to support frontline staff at The University Hospital of North Tees and James Cook University Hospital. Popular venues such as Stockton Splash, Billingham Forum, Thornaby Pavilion and Tees Barrage International White Water Centre, which are all managed by charitable leisure trust Tees Active, combined their supplies in a joint effort with vending partner Select to provide refreshments for NHS staff across Teesside.
Sahida Ditta, an NHS worker who has been generating donations explains, “The generosity of local businesses has been overwhelming and the donation from Tees Active will be greatly received by teams across both Trusts. It’s kind gestures such as this that really show our frontline staff just how valued and appreciated they are.”
The donation, which included over 800 snacks such as crisps, drinks and chocolate, will be split equally and delivered to hospitals this week.
Tees Active Managing Director, Leon Jones, added “Our NHS workers perform a truly incredible job, and the pandemic has only highlighted this further. It’s our pleasure to play a small part in supporting them through this unprecedented time. As a charitable trust we are at the heart of the communities we serve, and though we have temporarily closed our venues, we are still committed to supporting and encouraging everyone to keep healthy and active through a range of online resources available on our website and social media.”
Tees Active has supported further initiatives by Stockton Borough Council and Catalyst Stockton to assemble a food distribution hub at Stockton Splash. The hub forms a central location to pack and distribute food to homes of Stockton’s most vulnerable residents during the pandemic.
