A Christmas full of fun in Redcar and Cleveland

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas across Redcar and Cleveland and there are LOADS of events, activities and festive happenings in store for folks and families across the borough.

Christmas is a magical time of the year and as we head towards the month of merriment, mistletoe and memory-making; here’s a flavour of what you can to see and enjoy in the towns of Redcar and Cleveland.

The celebrations start on 27 November with the Redcar Lights Switch On and Illumination Parade. The day begins at 2.30pm with exciting High Street festive fun, moving to the Main Stage Programme at 3.30pm with the Illumination Parade at 4pm from the Civic Centre and the Switch On! moment is at 5.30pm.

The illumination parade will be decked with professional performers and more than 200 community participants with artwork including lanterns, costumes and exciting visual spectacles. The crowd will be entertained by outstanding musical artist Sisi, as well as Groove Inc for a little bit of Christmas soul and funk, supported by the talents of Tuned In’s young people, compared by BBC Tees’s Scott Makin.

Renowned ice sculptors Sand in Your Eye return on 17 December, 10am - 4pm for Saltburn Ice Trail; a wonderful one-day amazing ice sculpture trail. Street theatre entertainment will delight; Scrooge and Mr. Scratchit will travel across the town spreading Christmas cheer, Theatre Illuminaire will bring lampposts to life and Bell and Bullock have travelled back from Victorian Times with their eccentric time machine.

And that’s not all, Redcar & Cleveland folks and families have 50+ Christmas events in store: www.redcarcleveland.co.uk/enjoy/christmas

Redcar & Cleveland Councillor Louise Westbury, Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Culture, said: “We are very excited to be welcoming back the Christmas Spirit in Redcar and Cleveland and we hope that all the events and activities organised around the area will give all our residents the opportunity to have fun and fully celebrate Christmas. I hope that this period will bring together the communities within our borough so that they can create joyful memories together.

As we are facing challenging times, we are doing everything in our power to offer our residents the support they need, together with happy moments to spend with their families during this festive month.”
