Online physical activities for kids

With social distancing measures likely to remain in place for some time to come,  we know that may parents are concerned about their children getting enough exercise.  Our team have found these great workouts that they have tried and tested with their own families.

If there are any other physical activities resources that your family have enjoyed and you think we should include - please email us via lisa@writeplacemedia.co.uk.  Please note that we cannot accept any responsibility for the content of online content and parental discretion is advised at all times.

  1. The NHS website has official advice for physical activity guidelines for children and young people on their website.  The NHS project website Change for Life is full of fantastic advice on how to keep your kids active both indoors and outside.  We particularly recommend their 10 Minute Shake Up Games Disney themed exercise routines for one or more players featuring your favourite Disney characters from Moana to Olaf.  The website also has accessible activities and information on how the Shake Up Games can be modified and enjoyed by children with additional needs.
  2. Another firm favourite of ours is the Cosmic Kids Yoga YouTube channel which contains hundreds of themed/storytelling yoga videos of varying lengths.  Many feature well known characters like those from Harry Potter, Star Wars, Trolls and Frozen but there are also some original stories based around animals and events such as Halloween.   Cosmic Kids is also available as a charged app for downloads and more exclusive content.
  3. The Bumble Bee Physio Facebook page and YouTube Channel is full of ideas for inclusive activities and hold a series of regular live workout videos for differently able children which are specially modified for a variety of different needs.
  4. CBeebies favourite Andy has been travelling the world for his 'Andy's Wild Workouts' series also available online and are particularly great for younger children.
  5. The CBeebies 'grown-ups' page has also detailed some fun exercises that parents can do with their kids.
  6. Supermovers on the BBC Teach site has a fantastic range of fun curriculum linked resources to get kids moving as they learn about English, Maths, Science and PSHE.
  7. The Forestry Commission Shaun the Sheep Farmageddon trails may be over but you can still download and use the app for physical activities at home.
  8. No article about physical exercise for kids would be complete without mentioning Joe Wicks aka 'The Body Coach' on YouTube.  His 30 minutePE With Joe sessions take place live every weekday at 9:30, with a fancy dress session on a Friday and are uploaded to this playlist shortly afterwards where you can find every previous video as well.
