Teachers and parents wishing to explore Gloucestershire history and support children’s learning after the county’s history festival ends on 18 September, can visit a wealth of online resources held by Gloucestershire Archives. These include unique historical documents for both Gloucestershire and South Gloucestershire, videos featuring Victorian classrooms and Gloucestershire Pioneers, to online exhibitions about childhood and the poor.
The Passport to the Past resource packs allows visitors to create a map, design your own newspaper or have a go at writing like a Victorian. The archive’s main curriculum link is History, but it also provides resources for English, Drama and Art, especially aimed at children aged between 6 and 11.
Gloucestershire Archives also reaches out to schools interested in acquiring Heritage Schools status. It holds a day of training, as well as a marketplace of Gloucester heritage venues, on Friday 30 September. Funding is available to provide cover.
