Rosary School pupils name Stroud's new road sweeper

Year 3 children from Rosary School in Stroud have named Stroud’s new electric road sweeper. The children and their teacher Miss Pollard considered several names before deciding to the name the road sweeper Tidy Tim.

Stroud councilors Doina Cornell and Chloe Turner chose the name from several entries submitted by primary schools across the district. “We had some strong entries, and Electric Gleams was a close second, but we felt Tidy Tim summed up exactly what this vehicle will achieve,” says Cornell.

Tidy Tim forms a key part of Stroud District Council’s plan for carbon neutrality in 2030. The new road sweeper saves the council over eight tonnes of green house gases per year. Turner said, “We already have eight council-owned EVs and five hybrids in our fleet. We are constantly trying to find new ways of reducing our carbon footprint.”

Ian Bourton of Ubico, the council’s service provider, adds, “The vehicle, and its driver, are both well received on their rounds. We are committed to reducing the CO2 in the atmosphere and improving the local air quality for our residents.”
