Gloucestershire FA joins local anti-poverty scheme

Cheltenham families with financial difficulties are now receiving help from the Gloucestershire Football Association (GFA), which has become the 80th local organisation to support the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) community agreement run by Cheltenham Town Council. As part of the scheme, schools, organisations, and businesses across the town and its surrounding areas help struggling families in different ways. The GFA has provided footballs and the popular Panini Sticker Albums for children and expects to give more equipment in future.

The Mayor of Cheltenham, Sandra Holliday, and Councillor Flo Clucas recently presented the association with a plaque to mark the occasion. “I’m really thrilled that Gloucestershire FA have become the 80th member of the NCLB community agreement,” says Cllr. Clucas.  “Partnership working is so important to strengthen the links between families and their communities, businesses, and organisations.”

Chantelle Thompson, GFA’s designate safeguarding officer, says, “Football can play a vital role in helping to combat the effects of child poverty and trauma. As an organisation, we want to use our game to aid families and young children who may have experienced any form of trauma and financial hardship. With the cost of living, not all families will be able to purchase football equipment or games for their young ones and many kids may miss out on these joys.”
