Corinium Museum’s Fun Family Trail: Brickus Orpheus
Imagine exploring a museum where the ancient myth of Orpheus is brought to life in a fun and modern way. Corinium Museum’s Brickus Orpheus is a magical trail where children can discover statues of the animals, humans, gods and goddesses from the Orpheus myth, all made from colourful LEGO® bricks.
The trail, which starts on April 15th and runs up until the 2nd of November, is part of Project Orpheus, which celebrates the 200th anniversary of the discovery of the Roman Orpheus Mosaic at Barton Farm in Cirencester.
The first Project Orpheus family workshop at the museum in Park Street, Cirencester, is happening at Easter. During the Orpheus: Myth and Music workshop, children learn about the Orpheus myth and then make and decorate their very own lyre like the one Orpheus plays to tame the animals. The workshop is on April 16th at 10.30am. Other Easter holiday craft workshops at the Corinium Museum include Mini Mosaics, Roman Swords and Shields, Anglo-Saxon Brooches, Happy Birthday to the Bard! and Prehistoric Pottery.

Project Orpheus is year-long celebration and partnership project between the Corinium Museum, the Barn Theatre and New Brewery Arts in Cirencester and is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The museum is also developing a KS1 workshop for schools based on Greek and Roman myths.
