Step into 'A real Roman experience' this summer at Jewry Wall in Leicester
Looking for a fun and educational family day out during the summer holidays?
The newly transformed Jewry Wall museum Leicester opens its doors on Saturday 26th July, offering an immersive Roman history experience perfect for children and families. This exciting attraction brings Roman Leicester to life with interactive exhibits, hands-on activities, and engaging storytelling ideal for keeping kids entertained and learning over the school break.
Start your visit in the spectacular Immersive Hall, where you’ll meet Marcellus, a Roman boy who lived in Roman Leicester (Ratae Corieltauvorum) nearly 2,000 years ago. Through Marcellus and other citizens of this ancient town, children follow fascinating stories about Roman life, work, and play, creating a vivid, personal connection to history.
Step outside to the beautiful gardens, where the actual Jewry Wall, one of the largest surviving Roman walls in Britain, stands proudly as a reminder of Leicester’s rich heritage. You can also explore the remains of the Roman baths, giving a fascinating glimpse into how Romans relaxed and socialised after a busy day.
Throughout the museum, children can explore how Romans built the city, their daily routines, and what they ate, with interactive digital games and sensory displays designed to make learning fun and memorable. Authentic Roman artefacts on display add an extra layer of discovery, helping young visitors engage directly with Leicester’s rich Roman past. Jewry Wall also offers a family-friendly café serving Roman-inspired treats, making it a perfect summer holiday destination for families.
Whether your child loves history, puzzles, or interactive learning, Jewry Wall promises an inspiring and entertaining experience for all ages.
