CBBC Announces Second Series of Hank Zipzer Starring Henry Winkler
Cheryl Taylor, Controller of CBBC, has today announced the commission of a second series of the channel’s fast-paced comedy drama series Hank Zipzer, starring multi-award-winning actor Henry Winkler.
Produced by Kindle Entertainment with DHX Media and Walker Productions, the 13x30-minute children’s series is inspired by the book series Hank Zipzer: The World’s Greatest Underachiever, written by Henry Winkler and Lin Oliver.
The comedy series, which will film in Halifax, Yorkshire, follows the life of 13-year-old Henry ‘ Hank’ Zipzer (played by Nick James) and is based on Henry Winkler’s own experiences as a young boy growing up with dyslexia.
Hank is a boy whose glass is half full, but he just spills it everywhere. His brain works differently to those around him, and he has a great imagination, but doesn’t always see eye-to-eye with his parents and teachers. But, despite the daily challenges he encounters, Hank always manages to stay positive – and focused on his next masterplan… tomorrow is another day!
Henry Winkler plays his real-life teacher Mr Rock, the only teacher who seems to understand Hank, and a valuable ally in the almost daily battles the student encounters with the fierce and unforgiving Ms Adolf, (played by Felicity Montagu).
Cheryl Taylor, Controller of CBBC, said: "How fabulous for CBBC that the universally loved Henry Winkler has agreed to return as Mr Rock. He has won over a new generation of fans and our young audience will be thrilled to enjoy more adventures with the irrepressible Hank Zipzer."
The second series will air on CBBC in 2015/16 and is being made for CBBC by Kindle Entertainment, in association with Walker Productions, DHX Media and Screen Yorkshire, which is providing funding through its Yorkshire Content Fund.
