Children from eight schools in Salisbury have worked with the artists Sue Martin, Helen Morgan Ford and Helen Look to create book benches that will displayed at Salisbury Library from Tue 2nd Aug to Wed 31st Aug. The benches will then be given to the eight schools whose pupils painted for the children to enjoy for the foreseeable future. Each bench is designed to explore themes specific to each school, with the children drawing plants, animals and inspirational quotes on the benches. The eight schools which are taking part in the project are: Harnham Infant, Harnham Junior, Longford Junior, Manor Fields Primary, St. Andrew’s Primary, St. Martin’s Primary, St. Peter’s Primary and Woodlands Primary.
The project is part of Salisbury Rotary Club’s centenary anniversary and is funded by Salisbury Rotary, the Rotary Foundation and Wiltshire Council. There are also several other celebrations and events that are part of the club’s centenary including a ‘100’ Trail. For the ‘100’ Trail people are invited to follow a number trail around Salisbury Library until they reach the Golden 100 and receive a special token. This trail runs from Mon 1st Aug to Sat 27th Aug.
The Cabinet Member for Libraries, Cllr Ian Blair-Pilling, has said “Salisbury Rotary Club received its charter in January 1922 and since then has raised many thousands of pounds for charitable causes both in Salisbury and around the world. We are delighted to have been able to support them in their centenary celebrations through this exciting project which has produced such beautiful book benches.”
