Virtual workshop helps Wiltshire's Little Troopers

Four hundred and fifty Wiltshire children in 13 local schools took part in a free well-being and mindfulness workshop this month as part of a national programme aimed at the children of military families. Run by the charity Little Troopers, the virtual workshop was presented by TV presenters Katie Thisleton and Frankie Vu and used games, drawings and other activities to explore the particular challenges that can come with a military upbringing. These include the deployment of one or both parents abroad and relatively frequent home moves around the UK.

The activities helped the children explore and communicate their emotions when faced with such challenges. They were designed by ‘Little Troopers at School’ programme, created by the charity in collaboration with education experts to give all schools easy access to resources which support children from military families in the classroom. Nationally, the workshop reached 3,200 military children in 150 primary schools.

Louise Fetigan, founder of Little Troopers, said, “By running a virtual workshop, our small charity can reach and benefit as many service children as possible and make them feel part of this special network of military children across our armed forces community.”

Little Troopers supports children who have one or both parents serving in any of the branches of the British Armed Forces. Additionally, Little Troopers provides free resources and initiatives to support military children at home including the ‘Little Troopers All Together’ deployment club and the ‘Little Troopers Treasures’ story recording app. The app enables deployed military parents to read to their children while serving at home or abroad.
