Wiltshire families mourn the death of Her Majesty The Queen
Wiltshire Council, The National Trust and Marlborough College are among the Wiltshire organisations paying their respects and lauding her achievements.
Families, schools and charities across Wiltshire are mourning the death of The Queen following the announcement of her passing on Thursday afternoon at Balmoral in Scotland. Councils are opening books of condolence throughout the county while Wiltshire Council opens a dedicated page on its website for messages of condolence. Leader of the council Richard Clewer says, “Her Majesty The Queen was one of the most important figures of our time and will be greatly missed. Our thoughts are with the Royal Family.”
Messages of condolence were issued by scores of schools, charities, and other organisations across Wiltshire on Friday morning. In a statement, The National Trust, based in Swindon, says, “We are deeply saddened by the news of the death of Her Majesty The Queen … [she championed] vitally important issues from preservation of wildlife and the environment to opportunities for young people.”
Longleat Safari Park says “We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. Our thoughts and condolences are with the Royal Family and the entire country during this difficult time.” Another Wiltshire attraction, Hope Nature Centre says, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Royal Family and all those whose hearts the Queen touched throughout her reign.”
Marlborough College posts, “Her Majesty leaves behind a remarkable legacy and her faithful leadership, selfless service and voice of reassurance throughout her seventy-year reign will be remembered by generations.”
The tributes take many shapes and sizes with some organisations releasing commemorative photographs and some changing the colour of their social media to black.
