Fun Activities for Young Carers in Melksham
BE QUICK! Event takes place tomorrow (Sat 3 Dec)
Young carers in Melksham can take part in free activities tomorrow organised by Wiltshire Council’s Melksham Area Board, Youth Action Wiltshire and local communities to thank the carers for their vital work. Activities include swimming, basketball, circus skills, and a selection of library sessions. The event is open to registered carers between the ages of 5 to 18 and takes place at Melksham Community Campus on Sat 3 Dec between 11am and 3pm. Another young carers event takes place in March to coincide with Young Carers Awareness Week.
Melksham councillor, Phil Alford says, “Young carers have to grow up a lot quicker than their peers but we hope our event helps them relax and enjoy themselves, providing a bit of respite from some of their day-to-day pressures.”
Youth Action Wiltshire’s Wiltshire Young Carers Service currently has 916 young carer cases active in Wiltshire for whom they provide support. Dawn Whiting, a representative of Wiltshire Young Carers Service says ‘We are really grateful to Melksham Area Board for prioritising young carers and facilitating a day for them…’
