Carnival to light up Pewsey

Claiming to be the oldest carnival in the country, with its origins dating back to King Alfred but its modern incarnation dating back to “just” 1898, Pewsey Carnival celebrates its 125th anniversary this year. The village of Pewsey comes alive on carnival day, Sat 23 Sep, when the vibrant colour of the decorated lorries and tractors light up the winding streets. In the weeks prior to the big day, the carnival organisers stage a number of fundraising events including the Pewsey Carnival Scarecrow Festival (Sat 26 Aug to Mon 28 Aug), which boasts a Disney theme this year. Visitors can take a walk around Pewsey and watch their favourite movie characters come alive, while the kids get to show off their Disney knowledge in the quiz.
